Definition:

A type of malignant cancer that can develop in the uterus and then metastasize to other parts of the body following a molar pregnancy, a D & C, or even after a normal birth (rarely). A complete hydatidiform mole is the most common precursor to choriocarcinoma.

Choriocarcinoma is almost always treatable, but it should be detected as early as possible, which is part of the reason why doctors are careful to monitor women who have had a molar pregnancy for several months after treatment.
