Baxter Announces Heparin Recall

Wednesday January 30, 2008

Baxter Healthcare Systems has announced an "urgent voluntary recall" of some of its injectable sodium heparin vials after users reported life-threatening allergic reactions. Heparin is a blood thinner with many uses, but it is often used in treatment of recurrent miscarriages that involve conditions like antiphospholipid syndrome.

The press release has details on the specific lot numbers that are affected. If you use heparin, be sure to double-check your vials and talk to your doctor if you have concerns.
