A congenital uterine malformation is a deviation in the shape or structure of a woman's uterus that occurred during a woman's own prenatal development. Exposure to certain chemicals may cause congenital malformations, such as if the woman's mother took a drug called DES while pregnant.
Some types congenital uterine malformations can increase the risk of miscarriages or preterm delivery. Specific malformations include septate uterus, bicornuate uterus, unicornuate uterus, arcuate uterus, didelphic uterus, or T-shaped uterus.
