Definition:

One type of congenital uterine malformation (müllerian duct abnormality). A bicornuate uterus is heart-shaped with two cavities joined together; a normal uterus has a single cavity. A bicornuate uterus is a risk factor for premature labor and cervical insufficiency (cervix is weakened or shorter than normal, which can cause preterm dilation).
