The normal range of hCG levels in early pregnancy is wide, and it is always hard to pinpoint a single measurement as normal or abnormal.
High hCG levels can be a sign of having twins (or more multiples), but high hCG levels can also occur in normal, uncomplicated pregnancies. Sometimes a higher than expected hCG level might indicate that the pregnancy is further along than was originally thought.
Occasionally high hCG levels can be a first sign of complications such as molar pregnancy or certain chromosomal abnormalities in the baby. Your doctor will be on the lookout for these conditions if you get unusually high hCG levels and should inform you if there is reason to be concerned.
