A Maine newspaper called SeacoastOnline has a nice feel-good story to start 2010. The article describes the experience of a Maine couple, Exandra and Philip Noble, who birthed the local area's first baby for 2010. The Nobles had two prior pregnancies that both ended in losses due to incompetent cervix / cervical insufficiency, a condition in which the cervix begins to open too early in pregnancy and which can lead to recurrent late miscarriages or preterm births.
In this latest pregnancy, mom Exandra was placed on bed rest in her fourth month in order to improve the odds that her baby would stay in the womb as long as possible. The article describes the pregnancy as rough, but the end result is that baby Gabrielle was born healthy, albeit a month premature.
Yet another good reminder that success can be just around the corner. One year ago, the Nobles were still just hoping to be parents and praying for their miracle, but now they are starting 2010 with the baby they dreamed of. I hope that 2010 will bring good luck for all of you out there who are still waiting to see the light at the end of the tunnel of your pregnancy loss experiences. Happy new year!
